Creating and Making
Throughout my recent teaching experience,
I have taught classes within in a school with very little resources, which has challenged me in terms of creating units and activities that allow students to experiment with a range of art media, materials and technologies. I have designed a number of units of work which allow students to explore and apply arts elements and principles as well as techniques and processes with limited materials. |
Exploring and Responding
The exploring and responding dimension of the Arts domain is imperative to provide context to making artworks for students, which is in part key to student engagement in the subject. Within this dimension, students learn to interpret and respond to artworks and analyse both their own and others' works in terms of aesthetics, application of elements and principles, meanings and ideas.
I always model appropriate arts language in my classes and provide opportunities for students to reflect on their own creativity. |
Year 9 Mixed Media Experimentation
Activities which give students freedom to experiment with a range of media and materials directly support outcomes as prescribed in curriculum documents. The example from the lesson plan to the left shows a lesson in which students were encouraged to use mediums which they had not used before, and to generate for themselves starting points and stimuli in a following t-shirt design project.
